Silah the Rito

||Western AU Concept||

Hello everyone, Foe here again with another concept for the Western AU/Spinoff! Instead of a recurring character we have a more original character!

Her name is Silah. Silah is the only Rito that resides in the predominantly Hylian and Link’s home settlement, Ordonia. Why she chose to settle down in a place like Ordonia is unknown. Like most of the villagers of Ordonia she is well acquainted with Link, however, it is only until after Link is tasked as a gun for hire that they cement a bond. A talented markswoman throughout Hyrule, Silah takes it upon herself to teach Link proper safety, aim, and techniques with his pistols before he is to venture off.

Silah isn’t a very traditional Rito and is never really seen in the traditional garb as pictured. When she is out and about she tends to tote around her rifle for show.

Design Notes:

As I was working on the AU I wanted to take a break and draw a Rito oc that was originally going to be a self insert but as I made progress her design became more original in appearance than that of any relation or resemblance to myself. I wanted a “npc” type of character that also came off as a “shero” or a heroic woman. Her clothing is inspired by “Gothic country” which is your typical depiction of cowboys meet goth or black clad cowboys. As for her base such as coloration and hairstyle I have nothing left to thank none other than the Philippine Eagle! When I was nearly finished with the drawing itself I began to question how the clothing choice would effect her wings since most Wind Waker Rito are depicted having sleeve-like wings that dangle out of their robe sleeves. Upon this realization I was startled and disappointed behind the possibility of a design flaw or clash. Further inspecting the Wind Waker Rito, I noticed Medli does not have the sleeve-like wing design and instead her arms are bare. Medli was my saving grace upon finalizing Silah’s design.

Naming her was pretty much the most difficult thing to do. I wanted her name to have significance, a nomenclature. Anyways her name is derived from the Azerbaijani word meaning “gun”.
