Backstory

  Rokusanu Kireina Cuttlefish is the eldest granddaughter of Craig Cuttlefish, the older sister of Callie, and the eldest cousin of Marie. Born on February 14th in the year 11,995, which is 26 years prior to the events of Splatoon 3, they were born in Inkadia's district hospital. Their mother was a former Aikido Champion that opened up a tea shop to help bring all kinds of people together that were still recovering from the Great Turf war that happened years ago. Their father, a diligent blacksmith who was a more than prodigal architect with a good sense of artistic direction, but unfortunately faced challenges due to a gambling addiction that developed after the Great Turf War, a conflict that occurred many years earlier. As technological advancements diminished the demand for his trade, he struggled to maintain steady employment.

The family's situation worsened when they were compelled to relocate to Calamari County in search of more affordable housing, following their father's significant gambling losses that depleted their college fund prior to moving (This is before Callie was born and Homika was 3 years old ). This instability led to frequent arguments and intermittent separations, straining their family dynamics. As Rokusanu transitioned to schools and matured, she became one of the more challenging students for her teachers, often exhibiting bitterness stemming from unresolved issues at home. Her emotional outbursts, triggered by minor mistakes in assignments or class discussions, were a reflection of her struggle with expectations and self-worth.

Additionally, Rokusanu faced bullying from peers who highlighted her lack of material possessions and access to resources, further alienating her from her classmates. In response, she developed a tough exterior, aiming to project an intimidating presence to deter others and assert herself in a challenging environment.

The presence of two busy parental figures resulted in limited attention for their daughters, as the parents were heavily focused on maintaining financial stability following the incident in Inkadia. Consequently, Rokusanu began to adopt her mothers' nurturing behaviors towards her younger sister, who was facing challenges in school and seeking guidance and comfort. This was not due to behavioral issues or social difficulties, but rather because the younger sister struggled to keep up with assignments due to a lack of understanding of the material. Recognizing this, Homika took the initiative to tutor her sister, which rekindled their bond, reminiscent of their previous closeness, especially since Homika was no longer isolating herself in her room. One day, while listening to Callie and Marie singing in the backyard, Homika found solace in their voices, which often brought smiles after a stressful day. However, one afternoon, they stumbled upon an advertisement for the inaugural youth folk singing competition on the radio. This discovery motivated them to encourage her sister and their little cousin to participate, despite their hesitations about performing in front of an audience with the song "Calamari Inkantation; Chorus of Calamari County." This song ultimately propelled them to fame, catching the attention of committee member Shy-Ho-Shy and leading them to Inkopolis. It is important to note that the Squid Sisters did not create this song; it is, in fact, an ancient melody traditionally performed during the Gachi Bon Matsuri. (Age 11-12)

After considerable persuasion, they ultimately decided to leave Calamari County and seize the opportunities available in Inkopolis, with their parents' consent. While Callie and Marie concentrated on their burgeoning fame and home schooling, Homika enrolled in yet another school in the vicinity—the Academy of Inkopolis. Initially, she remained somewhat reserved and socially withdrawn, as she was unfamiliar with her new surroundings and lacked the need to create a facade to shield herself from bullies. Consequently, she struggled with social interactions and forming friendships. However, her encounter with Gloves marked a turning point; his friendly and lively nature positively influenced her. The two quickly bonded, enjoying various activities together, from organizing after-school events to attending concerts at the starfish mainstage whenever they secured tickets, and training in preparation for their first official turf war, a rite of passage in Squid culture, once they turned 14.

Regarding turf wars and their historical context, particularly the origins established by Glen Fiddler, they grew increasingly inquisitive about the circumstances surrounding the theft of the zapfish by Octavio and his crew three years before the events of Splatoon 1. This incident triggered a power outage crisis that resulted in numerous blackouts and injuries caused by the Octarian forces emerging from the depths. Even after this issue was resolved, their curiosity about the world intensified, motivating them to pursue careers in archaeology. They aspired to make a meaningful impact on their lives and the environment, especially after realizing how vulnerable they were when a single crucial element was removed, highlighting the urgent need for the world to evolve and suggesting that there might be a deeper significance behind the recent attacks.

Upon entering Turf War matches after officially assuming the role, she found herself notably matched with a mysterious blonde Inkling, whose fiery and commanding presence both overwhelmed and intrigued her. Ever since she heard his aspirations of becoming King, she felt a sense of envy for the direction he seemed to possess, a contrast to her own uncertainty despite their shared academic prowess. While this situation was not permanent, she maintained open lines of communication with him, now emboldened to pursue her dream of exploring the unknown. (This notably happens during the time her and Emperor are 14 years old; the time he allegedly started to build an ongoing track record when it came to being a beast at the sport due to his marksman prowess)

Ace Hendrick is a historian that lives on the West Coast of Inkopolis, and the research assistant of Rokusanu who she hired to help look after the nicknamed Himawari Residence due to its placement near the meadow of sunflowers near the industrial farms. When they both went to U.O.I they tended to challenge each other when it comes to the functionality and possibility of change within the environment; moreso comfortable with the way things are when it comes to knowing the midst of Earth's past and relying on what's in front of them to get through their own situations. As a product of his environment he was mostly fearful of what the unknown could bring if they ever tried to break loose from the confines of the current economical situations in regards to the heavy reliance on the Zapfish and understanding the reasoning behind the war that happened many years ago between Craig and Takowasa Shogun that caused these frequent issues to erupt. It wasn't until his personal life was effected by the transgressions that he started to take things a little more seriously when it comes to his field of work. As a jellyfish he was already self aware that his physical capabilities were miniscule so he'd go the extra mile to make up for it with the power of knowledge and what that can offer. His partnership with the brunette squid is a product of that reliance on protection and resources she could provide him but also a genuine bond when it comes to the experiences they've achieved and gone through together despite their overbearing debates they tend to have on a consistent basis but it'td the kind of love language that only they themselves can understand.

Dislikes: When the drinks he purchases are flat and not to pristine condition when he expects reliable satisfactions from the 60 dollar bottles he gets from the local bars and when his patience is trifled with.

Conrad James Rutland was a prominent figure in reality television, particularly recognized for his contributions to the field of archaeology. He possessed a mysterious background that Rokusanu eventually came to admire, despite her initial skepticism regarding his capabilities when she was first assigned to work with him. His laid-back demeanor and habitual tardiness to meetings initially led her to underestimate him. Rutland was frequently seen with a cigar, which contributed to an impression of nonchalance that often irritated those around him, especially when he offered excuses for his behavior. He frequently took the lead on their expeditions, and it was through him that Rokusanu was introduced to the fascinating aspects of their surroundings, particularly after discovering his history in the Special Forces prior to his retirement. Rutland employed rhetorical questions as a method to stimulate his colleagues' thinking when tackling both intellectual and physical challenges, viewing this approach as a means of imparting knowledge to younger generations. He regarded this as a way to honor the wishes of his late son, who had aspired for a brighter future for a place he would have cherished as home. Additionally, Rutland took great pride in nurturing the resourcefulness and rational decision-making skills of his students.

(Splatoon 1- Age: 21 Year: 12,015 -12,016)

Following the theft of the Great Zapfish and the circulation of rumors regarding the disappearance of her younger sister, concerns for her safety escalated, reaching even the distant regions of Calamari County. This situation left the entire family in a state of anxiety, particularly since the last conversation she had with Callie revolved around her frustrations regarding their strained relationship with Marie. Callie had expressed feelings of being undervalued by her audience, especially when compared to their cousin, who appeared to be more favored due to the Splatfest results that occured in Callie vs Marie. When the Squidbeak Splatoon Managed to save the day was when things started to go back to normal in the midst of things, promoting Homika to desire looking towards the way of her grandfather's organization ever since.

(Splatoon 2- Age: 23 Year: 12,017)

Following the repeated theft of the zap fish, DJ Octavio emerged as a primary suspect. However, after Agent 3 successfully defeated him, it became evident that he was not responsible for the fish's disappearance. Concurrently, Homika was on an expedition aimed at uncovering lost terrain, but she had to halt her efforts upon observing unusual activity in the Splatlands, which was linked to the fuzzy ooze virus infecting one of her team members. This incident coincided with Callie, Marie, the new Agent 3, and Captain 3 searching for their missing grandfather in Alterna. Eventually, Homika encountered Octavio during her venture of seeking clues about her grandfather's whereabouts. Given his dubious reputation she decided to challenge him to a duel, holding him accountable for her sister's capture in the previous chapter and the turmoil he caused her family. However, upon discovering that Octavio had information regarding the true culprit—confirming her suspicions about Mr. Grizz—she allied with the Shogun to combat the negative impact of the fuzzy ooze and personally assisted in locating Grizz's coordinates after infiltrating his base; leading to Agent 3s success in defeating him once and for all.

Design

She was initially conceived in 2018 in terms of narrative, but her official design was completed in 2020, a year prior to the release of Splatoon 3. The inspiration for her physical appearance stemmed from the principles of symmetry, featuring two bangs with a central fringe, two long tentacles that bifurcate, and a balanced arrangement of golden charms adorning her black kitten heels and the torso of her satin Chinese dress, as well as her moon earrings, which also exhibit a split design. The overarching concept for her appearance revolved around the question of how to create a character reminiscent of Callie while ensuring she possesses her own unique identity, akin to how Luigi resembles his older brother yet remains distinct. Interestingly, the initial idea was to depict them as fraternal twins; however, this evolved into a narrative focused on an older woman navigating the complex universe of Splatoon, addressing themes that are often overlooked through a more mature perspective. While Callie sports short hair, Homika features long hair. In contrast to Callie's pale complexion, Homika has a tan resulting from her outdoor activities. Callie's golden eyes inspired the choice of a deeper hazel for her sister. Additionally, one character opts for minimal makeup, while the other emphasizes her appearance to embody a sense of ultra-femininity. While Callie is characterized by her flamboyant and sweet demeanor, her sister is portrayed as girly yet headstrong. Pink serves as a shared color symbolizing their connection, while red was deliberately chosen to highlight her distinct personality traits, reflecting a more seductive and aggressive nature as a tribute to their differences.

Fun fact: Upon closer examination of her designs, one would discover heart imprints within her tentacles, frequently supported by the heirloom hairpiece of their late grandmother. Additionally, much of her facial resemblance reflects her appearance during her youth.

This video was based on what if Callie had a twin originally, but it was changed in favor of giving her an older sister due to the desire of showing someone who is more her opposite than someone who is more alike. The more flamboyant idol style was ditched for something more regal and mature on a spectrum. Of course, you still see she retained the longevity of her hair but it's still the same idea; though tweaked to fit the description to be a bit more... Splatoon like rather than something strandy looking. You get the idea.

At the start of this video she had very dark hair and looked more similar to Callie which was the start of the twin idea but overtime she became further and further decloned from her younger sister to have their own sense of iconography. The heels were also refined overtime into something chique and stylized to something specific to herself; matching the new design of her gloves. The final result made her look more like a simple yet stylish woman which I am satisfied with since they are meant to look inviting while their obvious questionable talents are hidden within.

Inviting as she often looks when it comes to being on a home turf or within a city, in her field of work she tends to wear more form fitting clothing that exposes her midriff to allow breathability in hot climates, trousers that won't get snagged on rocks or any other natural object in a setting, their shoes are notably the same brand that Emperor wears, the Milky Enperrials except in the style of scarlet instead of pure white and gold. Still fashionable, but looks more tactical this time around. Her muscle is a result of the athletic grace that came from her training under their mother who's an aikido champion when both her and Callie were young children.

DIVA Attire

A cream colored puffy coat paired with a black sequence dress, she sports a more femme fatale look here that contrasts with her sleek red colorations in her base attires. They seem more relaxed here, or maybe just a teensy bit devious but that's mostly because she wears clothing akin to this when participating at the high rollers club to place her bets and win in these precarious mini games they have to offer.

HighRise Mishaps

Though not her full body is shown here, they are wearing a cocktail dress with two blue Chinese geisha's pinning up the tentacles on the top half of her head rather than the typical gold hairpiece that often holds it together in her base uniform that's more styled around a Gekka or Quapo dress with a torso opening at the center. Why is she holding a key? Contextually, this happens when she is attending a winery of a mysterous man; to have the apparel of not looking too high alert is the idea here. Often for the typical inkling high octane approaches are expected, but a bit of finesse is a route she prefers.

• Gloves was little Homika's first companion when she first enrolled within the academy of Inkopolis. What made them such good friends is their cool and fashionable demeanors paired with their own types of charm. When her family struggled financially due to the circumstances prior to Callies birth when they were still in Inkadia when she was 3 years old they haven't really known what it was like to have fun or do anything beyond their responsibilities when it comes to helping at the tea shop. It is for this reason that he's one of the people she values most in the world

• Emperor often prepares meals for her when she is feeling fatigued, and they typically refrain from mentioning if he has slightly over-seasoned the dish or if it deviates from the usual preparation. She finds his confidence in these moments quite endearing, believing that highlighting every minor imperfection would detract from the experience. She appreciates his progress, especially considering the challenges he has faced since stepping away from Turf War tournaments for personal growth. Despite having had access to everything he desired throughout his life, he has lacked fundamental skills for daily tasks, which only deepens her admiration for his dedication and effort.

• She tends to tease and humiliate her enemies during fights to get them to either spill the information necessary by manipulating their emotions or to cut where it hurts once they find them to be too dangerous to stick around. It's to be noted that they're emotionally intelligent, it makes her a good friend since she'll know how to be there for you...but quite deceptive if you crossed her or unfortunately managed to be on the opposing side

• She went to the university of Inkopolis at age 17 where they notably worked with their professors for an on campus job as part of their little side hustle after dropping out of Turf Wars

• Rokusanu's soft spot for Emperor roots from his proud and confident nature in which she finds attractive but it also tends to root from his compassion for others, first displayed to her when news came around that he gave her friend Gloves the prototype Splat Dualies when he first aimed to be a great athlete in the Turf Wars. This eventually lead to a crush that didn't have shallow connections due to his appearance and moreso how well they compliment each other & how he challenges her. The tenacious and cunning Emperor paired with the sophisticated and emotionally intelligent Roxanne meant that a lot of hidden frustrations and sides to himself he kept locked away was distributed in front of her which is a rare instance for him to show signs of vulnerability. A great sign that there is a sense of trust and understanding between them.

• Rokusanu's relationship with Gloves came from the fact that they both followed trends when it comes to looking pretty or in his case, cool. When she was an exchange student all the way from Calamari county they made things pretty welcoming for her, but also tended to cause a bit of mischief that made them inseparable at a young age. It tended to make her forget about responsibilities back at home for a while and more on the aspects of allowing themselves to have fun and not grow up too fast. It is here where she actually had the motivation to take her training seriously when it came to participating in Turf Wars before eventually retiring from it due to feeling a sense of higher calling, but this didn't affect their bond a single bit

• Ever since Emperor started to work at the crust bucket it only made his skills when it comes to cooking stick out like a sore thumb when it came to his lack of experience in the field where he started waiting tables instead after burning a kitchen down. However from time to time he's at home he tends to practice with various failed attempts but eventually starts to get better when the woman dressed in red usually tests things for him. Unfortunately for the glamorous Homika (Roxie/Roxy) her taste buds were in for a doozy for a good month and a half until they had a decent dinner with eachother. It filled Emperor with his usual pride when it comes to succeeding in such an objective to wow his audience but she never told him that he might've needed to take it a bit easy on the peppers; figuring he'd get it on his own after being proud of his progress.

•Conrad James Rutland is an ex-marksman who served as a mercenary in his early 20s before he became a retire who notably never truly had a stable relationship with women due to his inability to commit due to his obsession with finding joy in the face of danger. When it comes to dealing with the masters of the light who often tried to hire him into performing specific tasks for them in regards to petty thievery and black market trafficking he often took advantage of it because of the thrill of the chase it gave them until he reignited his relationship with his 14 year old son he never knew about and had grown close to overtime that convinced him into living life peacefully; taking them to all kinds of land markings and ruins due to his love for nature and seemingly shamanistic or impossible theoretical presumptions he learned from a "Dr.Stooges" discovery channel when he was 9. But when Conrad's past caught up to him and the previous people he's worked for sent letters that were denied they used his close ties to his son to get him back into the game which lead to the accidental death of the child due to one of the soldiers incompetence and aggressive methods when it came to sedating them when the child attempted to escape. This happens in year 12,009

• To deal with his grief after he managed to blow up the last remaining remnants of the organization he started to follow the dreams his son left behind when it came to preserving the environment and became a TV show host in archeology to fill the void; that only ever blown up when he decided to auction off his stolen findings to the highest bidder to keep up his lifestyle in the manor he's owned. However....he often struggles when it comes to not slipping back into old habits and later learns to be more responsible with her leadership

• Darts is a Game not a lot of people can beat her in when it comes to the dead eyed accuracy. As mentioned by Agent 2, it's been stated that Agent 1 had quite poor ammunition skills which could explain the reasons why Cal- uhem..Agent 1 prefers to cut to the point with a high octane Ink Roller. Rumor has it, that when they hang out together at lounges she often looks for an excuse to dodge challenging Homika at a game of darts, not wanting to add onto the winning from of 14 to 0.

• Red is Homika's favorite color, but she also tends to love certain shades of blue as a secondary. Her style often changes...not liking to remain too stagnant when it comes to certain situations

• Her relationship with her mother was the closest out of their parents, she adapted her style afterall. The only thing she managed to inherit from their father is his stubborn nature but it seems Callie took on more of Atlas's flamboyant qualities overall despite looking more like their mother

• Rokusanu and Callie used to have a strange sense of sibling rivalries growing up, often teasing and playing practical jokes on the other. But the eldest often had a bit of a protective streak towards their younger sister, unfortunately she seems to have been oblivious to most of what happens in her life due to not entering the route of becoming one of the new agents of Squidbeak Splatoon

• She is a Coroika Chronicles character, an extension of the Coroika series drawn and illustrated by Sankichi Hinodeya with the intent of extending the storylines of the Splatoon Universe, which often explores the idea or lack thereof when it comes to seeing the problematic world through a black and white lense

• Despite her kind disposition when it comes to how she treats others, they are not a hero like most of the inklings are in the series; resorting to more questionable methods to aim for what they desire. It's usually a horrible fate for her enemies, but a sirene experience for all of her friends she holds dear. Every Rose has thorns...right?

• She is one of the best cooks in the series due to her wide knowledge in global recipes, being more ingraved into casual values than their sibling who seems to always be a busy bee when it comes to being a beloved idol and one of their grandfather's agents.

• She often likes to wear makeup whenever they are in casual areas, liking the idea of embodying hyper femininity whenever they can by personal definition. Without it....she seems to lean more into the cutsie side of her more natural beauty

• Fashion is something that she'd always been interested in since the age of 14, and even moreso when the body started to mature and being more experimental was more common amongst teenagers

• When she was younger, she sported a short brown bobcut and eventually had grown it out; it seems she prefers it long instead
