THEY'RE INKTOLINGS [THEORY]

YES HELLO I HAVE COME TO A STRANGE CONCLUSION ABOUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED

A lot of you have similar ideas though and rest assured I love all of them!! I'd edit more of the things people have been pointing out into the post but I'm running out of image space ;u;

Many of you agree that they are hybrids and that they were genetically modified in some way. WOO! Let's hope we can uncover the full truth about these heckers soon! ; O;

ANYWAYS here's what I was thinking

Let's look at our new "Octoling" friends here

They're certainly interestinggg, don't ya think?

But there's a few things that don't seem to match up quite right

Let's look at their ears

For Octolings, these ears are LARGE.

VERY LARGE.

We know Inklings have large, pointed ears.

Typical Octoling ears, as shown by their models, have ears that are much smaller than the ones our friends here have.

While the Octolings we see here don't have POINTED ears, they are fairly large and rounded, definitely bigger than those of normal Octolings.

Are they perhaps the result of being a half inkling / Octoling hybrid?

VERY odd.

And this occurs on both the in-game models and official renders, so it PROBABLY isn't a mistake.

What does that mean?? Why are the ears different??? Even more food for thought!!!

Let's look at the octopus form next

Now THIS is MUCH different from the octopus form we saw from regular Octolings.

Top one is from Splatoon 1, second is from Splatoon 2.

Regular octolings have the same octopus form in both iterations, so why change the new one???? GASP

The eyes are incredibly different, (GREEN)

and look much more similar to inkling eyes than Octoling eyes.

The overall shape is different as well. Is this the result of a model change, or is something else the cause of this?

And need I mention the fact that there are MALE Octolings now? Previously, we were unable to see male-octolings in action!

These new Octolings bare striking similarities to our inkling friends.. don't you think??

did the inklings genetically modify the Octolings with their own DNA??

It's a wILD THOUGHT but it FEELS like a possibility??

There were definitely implications that Octolings were being tampered with genetically. We see them being incubated in the trailer!

along with them being tagged with numbers, as if they're test subjects.

I can't help but feel like these Octolings more closely resemble Inklings than other Octolings.

Even compared to Marina and a typical Octoling, they just seem so different!

Yet when placed with the Inklings, they feel like they're so similar!

The tentacles on the new octolings seem so much smaller in general. A lot less curly and more smooth, like inkling tentacles.

Notice how Octoling tentacle suction cups are VERY large and curl from the top of the head--

Very small in comparison, no?

A lot more similar to the smoothness of inkling tentacles, I believe.

Not to mention:

The inside of the Octoling tentacles are a lot more yellowish than the newer Octoling tentacles. Look how sparkly and Crystal clear those tentacles are in comparison! Just like inkling tentacles!

I can't help but feel like these guys HAVE to be Inkling/Octoling hybrids of some sort. They're just... So different and interesting!!?

BUT those are just my thoughts.

What do you think??? Is it a possibility?

Is the Splatoon lore a lot darker than we think it is?

Would it be moral of the Inklings to genetically modify the Octolings like this, if this was the case??

A TON of people have started bringing new thoughts to the table!!

Instead of the Inklings being the ones to generically modify Octolings... MAYBE the Octolings did it to the Inklings??

Many suggestions included the thought that Inklings may have been perhaps kidnapped and altered for war purposes??

Which is super CRAZY AND COOL?
