Personality description

Kai is always putting his friends' wellbeing above his own and protects them from any bad situations so to others he is viewed as reckless. He is a little too stubborn in certain situations when he has to admit defeat or admit that he was wrong. He is usually honest about what bothers him and isn't scared of telling someone what he thinks but that sometimes gets him in trouble resulting in fights. He is quite athletic so he doesn't do too bad in fights but because of his actions he normally gets in trouble with teachers and is often viewed as a delinquent.

Strengths

Kai uses his strength to protect his friends as he cares about them all and he won't stand for anyone trying to dis his classmates.

Kai is actually quite knowledgeable when it comes to supernatural phenomena which is pretty useful when class 2-B find themself trapped in Heavenly Host.

Flaws

He is a bit too quick to resorting to violence which lands him in trouble and even gets him hurt too.

Kai's not good at talking his way out of problems so that's what causes him to get into fights instead.

Background

Kai had a normalish early childhood with his parents getting along fairly well even though they did argue quite a bit. Kai seemed like a ordinary kid to his parents until they noticed a strange marking on his arm when he about 5. It turns out that was when he started to manifest his spiritual abilities. Obviously when he told his parents about the strange semi transparent people he saw sometimes they didn't believe him and thought he was just playing around.

By the time he was in Elementary school his abilities had pretty much fully developed and when he told people about the things he saw he was pretty much treated like he was weirdo and he didn't have any friends until a certain Rena Sugiyama decided to befriend the lonely boy. Like him Rena didn't have many friends but it didn't bother her and she was just glad Kai agreed to her friendship. The two were very close and if anyone picked on Rena Kai would set them straight and stand up for Rena.

During his final year of Elementary Kai's parents unfortunately passed away in a horrific car accident but he didn't seem all that sad about the event. This meant that Kai was now living by himself after his parents had left pretty much everything they had to their only son.

When Kai and Rena entered high school the two friends ended up in different classes and as Rena made new friends Kai was getting into fights which gained him the reputation of being a delinquent. There was a boy from the class nextdoor to Kai's that just didn't get along with him and the two had fights more often than not. He was close to just dropping out and just going into full time employment or picking up another part time job but he decided to stay in the end just before his second year.

Things seem to start looking up when he found himself in the same class of Rena. Misuki became a quick friend to Kai despite his reputation from his first year which was still there in the second year. At first the other class members seemed a little unsure but when they noticed how friendly their class rep was with Kai they all began to become his friends too, even Hajime who Kai had fights with during the first year became his friendly rival.

The whole of class 2-B were good friends and eventually on one fateful rainy night during one of Kai's ghost storytimes he decided to present the Sachiko ever after spell to his friends so they could be friends forever. That's when the class preformed the spell and soon ended up in Heavenly Host.

Time in Heavenly Host

When Kai wakes up in the closed spaces he finds himself with Ayaka who he, after he learns more about their situation, decides he'll protect her with his life. Due to his spiritual sense he has a hard time dealing with the malicious energy emitting from the vengeful spirits but he eventually learns to adjust himself to it. The two then searched the school for their classmates after learning they were in Heavenly Host Elementary.

After a spirit causes Ayaka and Kai to be seperated he has no choice but to continue his search alone. Kai runs into a near death situation when a fellow classmate, who has been affected by the darkening, attacks him. He barely escaped death's jaws that time but he thought that next time he may not be as lucky.

Kai later ran into Misuki and they both explain the things they had witnessed and the information they had learned about the dangerous environment around them. Then the two search for the classmates but unfortunately some haven't been so fortunate as the two soon find out when they find corpses of so of their classmates.

Unfortunately for the two the hammer wielding spirit tried to attack them but Kai protected Misuki from harm by acting as her shield. Kai ended up being struck across the head with the hammer's handle which subsequently knocked him out. The spirit then started to drag Kai's unconscious body away but luckily Misuki was able to prevent this when he/she grabbed onto Kai and the spirit eventually just let Kai go as it stumbled down the hallway. Kai later woke up in the infirmary after Misuki carried him there and treated his head wound the best he/she could. After resting for a bit the two they continued their search for surviving classmates.

They found the rest of the survivors after the two talked with Naho about the closed spaces and returned the ghost children's body parts. Kai had led the way to collect the body parts as he was determined to find his friends and keep them safe from murderous spirits.

After that the rest of them gather in the custodian's closet where they learn of the reverse method. The group of survivors confronted Sachiko then presented certain items to her and Kai used his powers to help with her passing on.

The rest of class 2-B then escaped to the annex walkway where they preformed the reverse method. They were then finally free of their nightmarish experience in Heavenly Host.

Friends

Misuki: Being the class president, Misuki was actually Kai's first friend in class 2-B and the two still get a long very well. Misuki is always there to help Kai through any problems he may have and is there to offer any advice that he can.

Ayaka: Kai's study buddy and close friend. Ayaka cares greatly for Kai and is always trying to get him to focus on studies as well as other things since she doesn't want him falling behind in any of the work.

Hajime: Kai and Hajime didn't use to get along in the past when they were both in different classes and they use to get into fights with each other. Now that they are both members of class 2-B they have been able to get to know each other better and became eventual friends but they still have that sense of rivalry.

Yuuto: Kind of like Kai's bro as they both have a strong bond despite Yuuto getting pretty scared during Kai's ghost stories and ghostly antics. They are both close and Yuuto even looks up to Kai as an inspiration of some kind.

Rena: Kai and Rena are like joker buddies as they pull small pranks on classmates together. The two had been friends way before high school and were actually friends in the early years of Elementary.

Emiko: Emiko is more of the rough and tumble tomboy of the class and attempts to get Kai to try new sports. The two are both quite athletic so they can keep up with each other. She's also the one who helps treats Kai's wounds when he gets into fights.

Ruto: Kai and Ruto didn't speak much to begin with but when Ruto found out about Kai's ability to see spirits she began asking and talking to him about it since she holds an great interest in the supernatural.

Izayoi: Kai and Izayoi are an unlikely pair of friends are they are so different with Izayoi being the gentleman of the class and Kai being the delinquent. Despite their differences they get along just fine and are both good friends.

Shion: Shion tries her best to convince Kai to stop getting into fights as she worries over her classmate's wellbeing but he still gets into trouble more often than Shion wishes for. She is always lecturing him over his behaviour and tells him to stop with the fighting but it doesn't seem to do much.

Abilities and equipment

Items

Purple animal phone charm: An item that was gifted to Kai by Misuki as a symbol of their friendship and Misuki also has a similar charm in green that they have as a phone charm. Kai holds this item very dear to him and makes sure to keep it safe.

Green gem necklace: This is actually a spiritual item that Kai keeps with him and apparently it has the ability to protect its wearer from evil energy.

Power stone: This is a useful item in dispelling sealing talisments and protecting someone from an evil spirit. Unfortunately this is a one use only item.

Abilities

Kai has the ability to see and interact with spirits due to spiritual sense. He can also hear voices of the decreased sometimes but if it's a location with a strong spiritual presence then he can hear it then. He is able to perform exorcisms on certain spirits and assist them to pass on. Even though Kai has been told this ability is a gift he views it more like a curse than anything.
