Ishimato Aya
Today is Friday.I lean forward after my slumber in my bedroom as I stretch my arms and back, I look outside to see it is still dawn, four in the morning. Seeing that it is early, maybe a big breakfast can be possible, after all I do love myself a big breakfast! As all those thoughts were in my mind, I get off my bed and walk towards the bathroom were I switch on the lights as I face the mirror where my reflection looks back at me. Everything is in shape, my dark brown bob cut, light pink lips, normal green eyes and a mole on my cheek, I really do admire myself when I have the chance, plus you have to look presentable and I look great! Though I do admit I feel my bob cut is to boyish, maybe I should could go for double curls? Double pigtails? A ponytail? long hair? Wavy hair? And maybe a white bow or a pink hairband as final tou-. Wait! What am I doing? I'm Getting distracted! I quickly began to wash my face before I think about anything else.
After bathing and brushing my teeth, I get dressed in my uniform and as I buttoned my vest I arrive in the kitchen where I open my fridge and take out two eggs, some bacon with some bread for toast. Great now I can begin cooking!I crack open two egg into to the pan, humming cheerfully as the sky becomes brighter with an orange hue, as that happens I take out the freshly fried eggs with sunny sides up and fry up three pieces of slightly thick bacon as I go to prepare some coffee. Pouring the coffee powder and hot water together, I get the coffee I want, no sugar, milk or any fancy stuff, I like plain and tasteless coffee and just when I finished preparing, I return to my bacons to flip into a perfectly fried bottom, as that happened, I thought it will be a good time to start toasting my bread. I check the time and see that it is thirty minutes into five in the morning, I still have time! I finally finish frying the other side and took the three pieces out and sat down at my table with the plate in front of me and my toaster just further ahead, that's when the bread jumped out with a perfect golden look to it, I grab it and place it on my plate to eat it with the rest of my breakfast. While eating, I was thinking about the story Randal had told me last night. So his one was directly, well in that case, he is the only other one I know except for me! I mean I am definitely sure there many others like us, a lot of people experienced it to some degree, it's just that some, a lot or almost everyone I ask regarding that day either dodge or refuse, I mean I know that is insensitive but what am I suppose to do? What can other people? we have no one to relate too, do we just brush the event as nothing? I ask myself all these questions in my head as I finished by breakfast, and as I gulped down the last ounces of coffee from my cup, I sigh and my eyes happen to land on a picture across the room: A picture of me, my mum and dad twelve years ago, I did not know why I was staring at it, I just sat here as I just looked at it, I eventually stand up and turn to my kitchen sink as I wash my plate quietly and slowly.
I leave my house and lock the door and head to the police station and since it is six, there are a few people about in the neighbourhood not much but a few. That's when I pass by a poster, "keep smiling and work with a spark of positively!", It said in bold black words on a yellow background with a smily face on it, I would have chuckled and go on but I notice that the smily face has red paint on it that covers the smile with a sad frown with the paint still dripping from it, must be delinquent activity, which reminds me of the student we were supposed to look for yesterday, I will find Randal and ask if we would be involved for potential search parties. Or maybe the graffiti came from a traumatised person, who knows, locals and people who experienced the events on that day try really hard to feel better about themselves, so much so that some local governments have started campaigns to try boost positivity around their areas but it seems not everyone takes them nicely...
As I arrive in front of the station, I see Randal just walking out to the entrance as he yawns and stretch's his arms to his back with a clipboard in hand, that's when I decide to engage him with a surprise!
"Good morning to you Officer Randal!", I exclaim with a loud shout greeting Randal.
"Ah!", screamed Randal as he jumped in surprise as he turned his head to me.
"Officer Ishimato! Your early!", Followed up Randal loudly, clearly shaken as he adjust his hat and himself as he tries to stand back in a straight position.
"Yup, and I am all ready for another day at work!"
"Yes, Yes, I can tell by your excitement...", Replied Randal as he checked my name on the clipboard still clearly shaken from the playful scare i gave from him.
"Alrighty then! Since you checked my name, I will see myself awaiting orders!", I Said as I turn around, then Randal tells me something before I even take a step
"Wait! Officer Ishimato!", Said Randal as he reached out his hand.
"Yeah?", I reply while turning slowly
"I forgot to tell you this but the superintended told me that you would be under the watch of a sergeant one week from now."
"wait what! cool! A sergeant to observe me, for how long?", I ask excitedly.
"well for about one week, he expects you to be a competent member in our ranks, and after that one week, he will have his observations sent to the superintendent, officer Ishimato.", explained Randal.
"well I am happy to hear that! What is his name? May I know? What is he like?", I ask quickly and excitedly as I jump up and down lightly.
"that would be sergeant Yoshiki Kishinuma, only one of the most respected member of this police force". Randal explained as he signs his hands to stop me from lightly jumping.
"You sure are a curious young girl aren't you Officer Ishimato?", Randal added playfully.
"Hey! I am twenty five! Call me a woman!", I shouted lightly as Randal rolled his eyes with a light smile. Just as this was happening, a man came from the entrance with his arms at his back.
"Morning officers! I suppose you two are chatting around in the morning!", He said with an imposing voice but with a light smile.
"Oh sorry superintendent!", Replied Randal quickly after turning around. He called the man the superintendent, so this was him! He is rather short but still taller then me by a bit, he had slightly white hair alongside with buzz cut hair with sideburns.
"Morning mister superintended, the name is Aya! Ishimato Aya!", I greeted Radiantly.
"Yes, Officer Ishimato, I know who you are, Randal told me a lot about you! And please, Don't need to add mister", Replied the superintended.
"Very well, officers! I expect you all to be in tip top shape for todays briefing at seven! It is an important matter and I expect everyone present today participates, and I expect you, Randal, to make sure all who come to be at the briefing, do I make myself clear?"
"Yes Superintended!", Said Randal.
"Very good!", Said the superintended as he walked back in the police station.
I stood by while all of this happened and I thought to myself excitedly,
"A briefing, this must be important! I really hope I will be put to do something useful! I know I would!", is what I said to myself as we walked towards the small briefing room not to far in the small station to the left of the hallway after the entrance.
It was packed, it was from me and Randal to twenty people in up the room! And an hour had passed and the time is seven ten! I really hope the superintended comes in, desperate to pass the time, I decide to talk to Randal, whom was sitting blankly with his clipboard in his hands.
"Is it normally crowded like this?", I whispered as I lean towards him.
"Your lucky, there are normally thirty", Said Randal leaning towards me, still looking forward.
"well it does not look like we even have ten more seats!", I asked as I check around the room to confirm my observation.
"No, the rest stand in an empty space or stand behind or next to the captain.", explained Randal.
"Oh okay!", I said in a relieve as I put on hands on my chest.
"Are you okay Ishimato?", Asked Randal as he turned his head towards me for the first time in this conversation.
"No, it's just that I...",
"Is something wrong?", Randal asked with concern as I see he grips his clipboard harder.
"I-I-I don't like closed spaces that muc-h-h", I finished as I sweated and stammered.
"Don't fret Ishimato! The briefing will be short, and it will all blow over!", Assured Randal calmly with a smile.
I look at him as he assured me, our eyes lock onto each other and I feel a sense of comfort. Just as I was going to open my mouth to thank him, BAM! I hear the door open with ten more officers taking seats to sit in our positions to stand in around the room followed by the superintended as he walked towards his small podium.
"Morning officers!", He opened loudly.
"I bring to you our current agendas that must be carried out on this day onwards! Recently, local neighbourhoods have reported elusive delinquent activity and our main target is the student named Zen Yamata, aged seventeen, he is the most troublesome delinquent we have had to face in a while, with charges of stealing and assault on pedestrians, students or any individual that he may have a fight with, this is a damning case and whats worse, he is just one in many delinquents active in this area, but he is a priority! Am I clear?"
"Yes sir!",Everyone said at once.
"Good! I strictly demand anyone who may encounter him to apprehend him non-violently and as harmless as possible and have him detained here on within a police car. I will also stress this will apply to any delinquents we may encounter! That is all for the briefing today! Thank you Gentlemen! You may be dismissed!", Added the superintended as he organised his papers and put them to his side.
The room slowly begins to empty, as I begin to stand up eager to start on the job, I hear my name being called out.
"Officer Ishimato!"
I turn around and it was the superintended, by then we were the only ones left in the room. I approach him slowly.
"At your service superintended!"
"Good! I wish to speak to you", He said as he straightened his collar on his uniform and sleeves.
"Officer Ishimato, you are our newest member of this force, and one of the younger ones! And you have a strong determination! Stronger then a lot of these men in our ranks!"
I was quite flattered by the superintended's statement, yet I held the feelings of excitement in. Where is he going with this? That is what I was going to ask him.
"So where are you going with this? A role with this search?", I asked.
"Well.....", Said the Superintended as he light scratched the back of his head and look to the side.
"You see, you have all those traits except for experience...", he added with a bit of a drag at the end.
"Are you disappointed at all officer?",He asked politely.
There was a silence in the room for a while, I had felt let down but I understood that this was a job for better experienced people, so I broke the silence.
"No, not at all, I understand this decision. I can wait next time", I said with my head shaking a bit.
"Thats good officer! Maybe the next time a serious situation is at hand, you may have gotten a hands on experience by then!", Encouraged the superintended optimistically.
"Thank you sir!", I said as I left the room, just then I felt like just asking one question.
"Superintended?", I said I leaned my head back into the briefing room.
"Yes officer Ishimato"
"May I know your name?", I ask with a smile.
"That would be Tooru, officer.", He replied.
"Nice! Thanks for answering! bye~", I said happily as I left the building for my patrol duties.
This is boring! It has been at least thirty since the briefing and now it is what I believe to be just eight in the morning. The streets are filled with cars and people as I stand still in front of a closed store watching everything go by. That's when I decide I cannot handle standing in front of this closed store with the amount of torn posters and graffiti on it, does not help it's dirty and sticky as well. With that, I leave to move on patrolling the area, who knows, I might bump into one of those pesky delinquents and I could be a helping hand! Imagine all the praise! Imagine the face on one of those kids when I catch one! Imagine the feeling of apprehending a wanted delinquent! Wait! Remember! This is serious! Just make sure you look out for any suspicious activity.
I continue to walk about in mild boredom as I walk into an alleyway intending to come out to the other side, suddenly, I hear a creaking sound coming from behind me on my right. I turn around slowly to see an open door. Sweat began to fall down my face as I step my feet through the door and my heart begun to race, just then, the door slams behind me and what little light came from the door was gone and I was trapped in a pitch black room. In panic, I run against door trying to escape as I screamed and shouted.
"Let me go! Let me go!", I shouted when my flashlight dropped and shined as it hit the floor.
Now a little more relieved, I pick up my flashlight and began to shine my light across the room to try and see what was in it, not much, brown walls, wooden furniture and boring photographs of landscapes, 'it feels like a room that a ghost would live in', is what I thought. When suddenly a burst of light came from fireplace where an armchair that was not there appeared in front of it in a single moment, I fall down as I look towards the silhouette of the armchair in front of me as the light from the fireplace spilled to the sides.
"Are you afraid?", Asks a voice of a female in a slow and soft yet dead like tone.
"AH? Who are you? Where are you?", I asked in fear as I grab my own head and look around the room as I run over to the fireplace and armchair to see no one sitting there.
"That is not important now, I need you to listen", said the voice.
I did not respond to the statement of the voice as i compose myself and stop grabbing my own head.
"You have no idea what ordeal you have gotten yourself into, you are being watched by someone of great danger"
"Someone of great danger?", I thought to myself briefly before the voice continued
"I can only help you through means you may find unconventional for I cannot manifest physically"
"Manifest? Physically?", I try to juggle and understand what I'm being told, but things just don't add up! What is this? A ghost?
"A tragedy only just a decade old, planted the seeds of a tragedy that will meet it's fulfilment soon, one not of carnage, but revenge. And all those who stand in the way of their plans will feel their wrath"
"If this is so important then why don't you give me your help even if it is unconventional?!", I shouted in confusion with me facing upwards.
That is when the fireplace goes dark and small fire lighting behind me in a blink of an eye, I turn around and see a lit candle on a candle holder with a small brown pouch next to it, I open the pouch and inside was four more candles.
"Light a candle to communicate with me, our connection can only last as long as the fire burns." Said the voice.
"How is this suppose to help me?", I ask in confusion. For a moment there was silence as I look into the fire of the candle, it was beautiful, the way the flames moved and the candle wax dripped down locked my eyes onto it, but that was all broken when the fireplace reignited this time with a tall dark figure looming over me with it's head down., putting out the fire from the candle and casting it's shadow onto me.
I could not make out the figure that well, but I was sure it was a women from her hair, which was of a dark blue hair styled to two long pigtails, she looked like she was wearing a brown coat with a dark yellow blouse with what seems to be a long dark blue pleated skirt. Suddenly, she turns her head up, the darkness casted made it impossible to see her face. That's when I heard the voice again
"Before you leave, remember these words", She said now in a more darker, deeper and distorted voice.
She stayed silent for a while as she raised her hands slightly as the fire got brighter and her silhouette became darker, that is when I heard her continue.
"Beware the tomb", In that moment, The fire engulfs the woman and moves swiftly towards me as I pick the candles and run through the door and back onto the alleyway, as I run out of the alleyway and back onto the sidewalk, I ran as fan as I can, I did not realise there was someone in front of me as I run into the person and my sight turns to black.
Now on the floor with my walkie-talkie, candle holder and hat right in front me as I open my eyes again, right to my side I see a young girl, I quickly rush to her.
"OH.MY.GOODNESS! Are you hurt?", I ask urgently as I stumble my way to the girl on the floor as I put my walkie-talkie and hat back on.
"Ugh, ow...", Said the girl looking up, she had blue eyes with small hints of green and had long hair with a hime cut, though this was not the first thing I observed about her, it was her hair colour, a mix of brown and dark blue. It was both beautiful and mesmerising, I was so distracted that I did not realise the girl was standing right in front of me, which I had just got back on her feet.
"Is something wrong?", The girl asked still trying to adjust her uniform and hair.
"Oh! Yes, I am so sorry I bumped into you", I apologised as I bowed with my face turning red and sweating.
"It's OK! It was on accident, besides I was not looking as well, silly me!", Said the girl as she assured me.
I look up and stop bowing down and we look at each other for a while, I will say this is very awkward, not knowing what to say, I ask her about her hair
"Um...", I said as I look down briefly and scratch the back of my head as I move my feet a bit.
"You have some beautiful hair", I say shyly with a smile still moving my feet.
"Oh thank you! I make sure it is tip top shape!", Said the girl happily as she put her hand at the back of her head.
"Heh, that's cool! So just wondering, did you style it yourself?", I ask.
"Well my hair colour is natural but I got my cut from the local hairdresser.", She replied.
"Oh that's cool! You know, you do have to get a move on, your a student right?". I ask kindly while I look at the clock on a pole across the street. Noticing that only five minutes had passed since I was in that room.
"Oh yeah! I have to go! Um, bye! And don't feel bad bumping into me!", Shouted the girl as she began to run.
"Wait!", I shouted
"Yeah?", Replied the girl, as she turned her head still running.
"What is your name?", I asked.
"Shinozaki! Murata Shinozaki!", She said as she dashed off to school.
I look upon her running and turning onto the right of the road where I loose sight of her.
"Murata Shinozaki, eh? What a girl she is", I thought as I still try to comprehend the situation i had experienced earlier. Then I reached into my pocket where the extra pouch of candles were as I picked up my hat, walkie-talkie and candle holder with it's candle still intact.
"I should have the candle's put into my locker first, then I will bring it back home", I said to myself as I walk back to the police station. As much I would like to, I think a break in the police station break room should do, I think i have experienced enough this morning. While walking, I think about what the woman had told me, but all i have left are more questions, who was she? Who is the danger? Was she a ghost? What does she want from me? Should i use the candles later at home? What is the tomb? Is it literal or figurative? What does this all mean? That's when one more crucial question came to my mind...
WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
