Wiki Submission Rules and Updates

Heyo, ACA!

Recently, the administration team decided to rework our Wiki a bit in attempt to make it more organized and easier to navigate. Please continue reading to learn what was removed and added, as well as some new rules regarding Wiki Submissions.

✓ Folders added:

1. Trading > Others

Because of the various shops we have submitted to our Wiki that don't exactly fall under an item or dreamie shop, we decided to make an 'Others' folder for shops like these!

Examples of shops that will be added to this folder include shops selling or offering the following products or services:

Other Design Services

Other shops and services may be added to this folder as well though! These are not the only ones we accept, but are currently what the majority of the shops in said folder are for, which is why they've been used as examples.

2. Media > Templates

In the past, any templates, symbols, or dividers Wikis were added to the Writing subfolder, however this wasn't always a good idea, as they were mixed in with various other wikis and difficult to find. Because of this, we've now added a Templates folder specifically for content like this!

As with the previous new folder, these are not the only Wikis we will accept into this folder! Any sort of on topic template or useful content for creating blog designs can be added to this folder.

Profiles > Islands

It's been a little over two months since the release of New Horizons and everyone's beginning to figure out their island themes! Because of this, we've had a small handful of members submit Island profiles explaining their town themes, and we're very excited to see more submitted too! We recently added an Islands folder to the Wiki so these NH based wikis will be separated from the NL town profiles. We hope to see everyone's island ideas soon!

✗ Folders removed:

1. Media > Artwork

A majority of the Wikis that were in this folder were commission shops, which ultimately made this folder a complete copy of the actual commissions folder. Additionally, we presume this made it more difficult for the Wikis added to the Artwork folder and not the Commissions one, as many people would likely only check the commissions folder for, well, commissions.

Any commission shops that were in the artwork folder were moved to the commissions folder!

2. Media > Writing

Our community has some amazing writers, however not many tend to post their content in wikis and submit them to the official Wiki. Because of the lack of content and use for this folder, we decided to remove it.

3. Profiles > Villagers

Because of our current stance on plagiarism of information from official Animal Crossing sites, such as the Animal Crossing Wikipedia, we have not been approving villager profile wikis for quite some time now as most of them are simply copy and pasted from another site. We decided to remove the Villagers folder for this reason.

Already existing rules:

Abide by ACA's [Guidelines] and the [TOS]

Any and all content posted on ACA must abide by these rules, and wikis are no exception. The content within your wiki submission must abide by these rules, otherwise it will be disabled on sight.

Be Organized and Clear

To have a wiki accepted, the content within said wiki should be nicely laid out and it should be very clear as to what the wiki is for or about. Using formatting, symbols and text dividers, templates, and other organizational elements will help your wiki be accepted. Wikis that are unorganized or were clearly not well thought out will not be accepted.

Only Use Your Own Content

As stated previously, wikis that copy text from outside sources or other members will not be accepted into the wiki and will also be disabled on sight as per our stance on plagiarism. Wikis made to contain any sort of commissions you may have recieved from members on ACA will not be accepted either, as they would not include your own content and the bulk of the post would belong to other members.

Newly added Wiki rules:

A Minimum of 280 Text Characters

Depending on the type of wiki you're submitting, 280 characters should be quite easy to reach if you're looking to have your wiki approved. This amount of characters is roughly about the size of a small paragraph, so, again, there should be no trouble with reaching this point! More characters in a wiki are definitely preferred and more likely to be approved, but this would have to be the bare minimum.

The only exceptions to this rule would be if there was an equal or greater amount of text content within any images or videos added to the wiki. For example, a commissions wiki that has image examples with text explaining the type of artwork you will or will not make, or an item crafting shop with images or video of every item you have cataloged for others to pick and choose from - both examples above could be exceptions to this rule if there is not enough text content.

Shops Must Stay Updated

As we were reworking the Wiki and going through some of the wikis that had already been accepted, we noticed a lot, usually shops, that were not up to date with the original wiki. Some shops that were in the Wiki were submitted when the shop was open, but the original wiki on the author's profile was either edited to inform others that the shop was closed and not open for business at the time, and some had even been deleted from the author's profile. Because of all the inaccuracies in these wikis, we've decided to implement this rule.

Every week or so, the Wiki will be combed through by an admin who will remove inaccurate or inactive shops and services to avoid confusion.

If you want your wiki to stay submitted for longer, please resubmit it to the Wiki each time it is updated.

When we remove inaccurate or inactive wikis, we will not be informing the author of the removal. It is their responsibility to keep their submission updated. If your wiki is removed due to inaccuracies or inactivity, it can always be resubmitted and reapproved at a later time, so don't worry if yours gets removed!

As of June 13th, 2020, we have reviewed every submitted wiki and made sure it was in the correct folder, and a majority of the shops and service wikis were removed to give us more of a clean slate. Some service wikis that had been submitted very recently were kept, but all old ones were removed.
